Pseudotsuga menziesii (NW North America)
Also known as British Columbian or Oregon, Pine this is an exceptional softwood, being strong, hard wearing and attractive with a distinctive grain and rather darker than European Redwood. The timber is usually knot free and of good length and width. Douglas Fir has numerous uses: decorative flooring, staircases, furniture, external joinery and boat building are just a few examples. Large cross-sections and long lengths up to 10m may be available for structural applications.
